Swimming Pool Building Code and Property Sale Changes (SB 442, 2017)
Swimming pool building codes have been amended to include requirements of SB 442, signed into law in 2017. Newly constructed or remodeled swimming pools at private single-family residences must incorporate at least two of seven specified drowning-prevention safety features.
SB 442 also requires home inspections conducted as part of the transfer of a property with a pool to include an assessment of whether the pool is equipped with adequate safety features. Pool contractors could see more retrofit/remodel work as a result of these requirements.
